“Beta,” is a 2024 release by Flint, Michigan native Yoshi Vintage. This release is full of powerful lyrics and hooks that will have you singing along before you even notice.
The album starts with its namesake track “Beta,” which is delivered in almost a spoken word style, which makes the lyrics seem that much more powerful, flowing into “Surf,” which has more of the standard hip hop sound, but with Yoshi Vintage's personality shining through. The next track “I Can’t Be No Jennifer,” uses pop culture icons to help illustrate what she wants to find in her pursuit of love, which may help others to relate to her song in a special way, and some of the lyrics had me interested, not going to lie.
Following that, is “delulu,” with saxophone playing throughout, it gives a feel of slow jazz influence with natural sounding verses overlaid with conversation styled recordings it is a unique and enjoyable song, which flows into “Layered Cake,” this track is delivered in ahip hop style, but with a combination of sound and lyrics leaves it almost hauntingly impressed upon the listener, just as much as the following track “You could neva.” Following these is a R&B sounding “Don’t Hide,” with her trademark powerful lyrics, it leads the listener to the final song on the album “Freaky Demons,” which sounds like an auto biographical song expression. It has relatable lyrics and I think many will respect what it is she is doing with her platform.
